The second brief, ‘structuring the diagram’ was one of my stronger projects. My project was based on the movements of the ankle joint. We had to create a working drawing using pencil on drafting film and then a model using only real materials. There were two parts to the working drawing. Firstly I had to create a diagram to symbolise the different ways the ankle rotates and bends and to what extent these movements are possible. My diagram is quite fine and delicate yet still has the powerful feel of depth. The lines I have used range from the fine, thin construction lines, right through to bold, dark lines. The second part was a drawing of my overall model design and the way I have based its movements on the ankle. I feel that this comparison is strongly expressed through my drawing. It clearly shows the different ways users can interact with my model. The last task was to design a interactive model that has the same sort of movements as my joint. The materials I used were; pine, a plastic rod, cardboard, stainless steel and wire. I combined these materials in a way that created a delicate and aesthetically pleasing model to look at. I think that my design was a success because the movements were clearly expressed through it. My model is stable and strong enough to be constantly interacted with from users.
