vlog-fluid form process

Review

After exploring other student’s blogs I have found a couple that I really like. I have left comments on some of the blogs that really stood out to me. Matt Armitage’s blog had an awesome layout and I especially liked the way he has personalised the background. His real life network image looks really effective. Another blog I really liked was Chloe Youngson’s. She had a interesting idea for her real life network which led to a powerful image.
The blogs I have made comments on are:

The second brief for design 111, ‘structuring the diagram’ was one of my stronger projects. We had to create a working drawing and a well crafted model. My drawing cleary expresses the movements of the ankle and how I related them to my model. My diagram is quite fine and delicate yet still has the powerful feel of depth because of the range in line thickness. The materials I used for my model were; pine, a plastic rod, cardboard, stainless steel and wire. I combined these materials in a way that created a delicate and aesthetically pleasing model to look at. I think that my design was a success because of the careful craft and the clear comparison it has to ankle movements.

Real life Network

For my real life network I decided to do the steps towards making my fluid form model (a project for design101). My image shows how a piece of A4 paper can be manipulated into a curved structure. It shows me planning the model, getting ideas from peers and presenting the final piece.

http://www.thedieline.com/ is a leading package design blog. I like this blog because there is a broad range of package styles. Some have extremely elegant aesthetics with smooth curves and textures and others use bold colours with sharp lines to draw attention to the product.
http://www.notcot.org/ is a great site for catching up with new age designs. From the latest cellphones, unique architecture and amazing textures this site offers something for everyone.

The second brief, ‘structuring the diagram’ was one of my stronger projects. My project was based on the movements of the ankle joint. We had to create a working drawing using pencil on drafting film and then a model using only real materials. There were two parts to the working drawing. Firstly I had to create a diagram to symbolise the different ways the ankle rotates and bends and to what extent these movements are possible. My diagram is quite fine and delicate yet still has the powerful feel of depth. The lines I have used range from the fine, thin construction lines, right through to bold, dark lines. The second part was a drawing of my overall model design and the way I have based its movements on the ankle. I feel that this comparison is strongly expressed through my drawing. It clearly shows the different ways users can interact with my model. The last task was to design a interactive model that has the same sort of movements as my joint. The materials I used were; pine, a plastic rod, cardboard, stainless steel and wire. I combined these materials in a way that created a delicate and aesthetically pleasing model to look at. I think that my design was a success because the movements were clearly expressed through it. My model is stable and strong enough to be constantly interacted with from users.
